Asus confirms Jelly Bean is coming to Transformer tablets

The Asus Transformer Pad, Transformer Prime and Transformer Pad Infinity are all getting a taste of Jelly Bean. There's no word on an exact date -- just "in the coming months" -- but at least we know it's on the way.

Asus sent out a note confirming the update, BGR reports. This follows HTC's lead in announcing Android 4.1 would hit its One X and One S phones. Once again though, HTC was disconcertingly vague when it came to naming the date.

"We are pleased to announce that many of our tablet products are scheduled to receive an update to Android 4.1, Jelly Bean," reads the note. "The Asus Transformer Pad, Asus Transformer Pad Prime and Asus Transformer Pad Infinity are all scheduled to receive Android 4.1 updates in the coming months. We will provide further guidance on our expected timeframes for these updates near their release."

And what about the rest of Asus' product portfolio?

Asus went on to say: "We are still investigating Jelly Bean updates for other devices, but we are not in a position to confirm whether any other products will be eligible for an update at the moment."

The company manufactures Google's Nexus 7 tablet, which runs Jelly Bean out of the box, so you'd expect it to be first in the queue for the update (as it was for Honeycomb). But then Google isn't know for its favouritism. It owns Motorola, yet the only Moto device confirmed to get the update is the Xoom tablet, which has been surpassed by the Xoom 2, making the reasoning behind the rollout anyone's guess.

HTC confirmed the One X and One S will get Jelly Bean, but didn't give a date. And everyone else is staying pretty quiet on the matter, giving a lot of verbiage about 'supporting the latest updates', but failing to give any concrete details. Though Google announced yesterday the Nexus S will have the update before too long.
