Apple's has issued its court-ordered public notice declaring Samsung did not infringe upon its design patents. But if you were hoping to see Apple munching on some humble pie, prepare to be disappointed.
The not-so-contrite statement can be found in a link at the very bottom of Apple's home page that reads 'Samsung/Apple UK judgement'.
The statement itself starts well. "On 9th July 2012 the High Court of Justice of England and Wales ruled that Samsung Electronic (UK) Limited's Galaxy Tablet Computer, namely the Galaxy Tab 10.1, Tab 8.9 and Tab 7.7 do not infringe Apple's registered design No. 0000181607-0001."

Further down, Apple is at pains to point out the judge's comments that Samsung's own tablets weren't as "cool" as Apple's own. "They do not have the same understated and extreme simplicity which is possessed by the Apple design," the judge commented at the time. "They are not as cool."
"However," Apple's sparse, logo-free statement goes on to say, "in a case tried in Germany regarding the same patent, the court found that Samsung engaged in unfair competition by copying the iPad design.
"A US jury also found Samsung guilty of infringing on Apple's design and utility patents," the aggressive non-apology continues, "Awarding over one billion US dollars in damages to Apple Inc."
"So," Apple bitterly concludes, "while the UK court did not find Samsung guilty of infringement, other courts have recognized that in the course of creating its Galaxy tablet, Samsung willfully copied Apple's far more popular iPad."
Crikey. It looks like Apple is far from ready to put this legal battle to bed. It turns out our 'artist's rendering' of Apple's apology was closer to the truth than we'd thought...

The notice is also due to appear in national newspapers, but we couldn't find a mention in the Guardian today. Keep a weather eye out, folks, and let us know if you spot any sour-grapes reparations in the papers.
What do you think of Apple's statement? Were you expecting anything different? Tell me in the comments or on our Facebook wall.

The mocked up apology was a first for CNet.... actually very funny!
anonymous 26 October, 2012 10:43
Whats hilarious is Apple conveniently forgetting the lawsuit thrown out in the US when a court stated that Judge Koh acted beyond her remit :D
They're acting like the arrogant little spaz whos been ordered to apologize to a classmate
anonymous 26 October, 2012 10:45
And the pompous asses will keep acting this way as long as the blind buffoons of the world keep buying their pointless crap in the name of iCoolToo.
Ken Wilson Jr 26 October, 2012 10:47
This will most certainly not satisfy the judge who ordered the apology. It is a press release calling the judge a moron for failing to see that Samsung infringed their design patent. I am positive you will see Apple back at the dock, trying to explain themselves.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 11:05
I suspect Apple will be called back to court as that is the very epitome of 'Contempt of Court'
anonymous 26 October, 2012 11:10
theres no way this truely horrible company should be able to get away with this, i am sure the judge who judged that they apoligise will have them back in court because this is jot an apology, apple are perfetic they should man up and so should the mugs buying there crap.

Such pompous hypocrisy! I've always disliked Apple, but this brings them to a new low, this is not an apology, this is a "Haha! According to the other judges, you're stupid!" statement. I mean, when Jobs was alive and in charge, I had never heard of such an egotistic, delusional apology that says: "We sincerely apologize that two out of three judges agree that you are infringing on the copyrights that we originally stole from other products/artistry." Arrogant Puerile Pathetic Lying Enterprise is right...
lex700 26 October, 2012 11:44
Even though I have to admit I have been impressed with the innovation Apple has shown in the past, as a company they have always struck me as having the personality of Karl Lagerfeld i.e. arrogant to the extreme, and this little stunt by them doesn't help that image.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 12:09
Apple... really not clever, not clever at all.
If a judge orders you to do something and you thumb your nose at him whilst blowing raspberries he will haul your backside back into court faster than you can laugh at "how you got away with it" and you will get proper retribution handed down on you then.
If there's one thing courts don't like, any court in anay country, that's companies taking the p... out of them.
I think Apple may have bitten of more than they can chew hehe
anonymous 26 October, 2012 12:12
And the iPad mini is in no way copying the new category of device that the Galaxy Note created - Phablet. Oh never mind, apple missed the mark by not adding cellular service to their mini devices.
You can not patent a CATEGORY of devices Apple! You did not event the cell phone but you made it better just like Samsung did when you created the Tablet category of devices.
Tim Acheson 26 October, 2012 12:49
Apple could not manage a simple apology. They had to dilute it to such an extent that it becomes a hollow sorry and a bitter outburst.
Tim Acheson 26 October, 2012 12:51
Apple could not manage a simple apology. They had to dilute it to such an extent that it becomes a hollow sorry and a bitter outburst.
Apple demonstrates pathological arrogance and self-righteousness, and profound contempt for the law in Britain.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 12:55
Apple & Samsung have both been so idiotic over these legal wranglings. Yes BOTH have been idiotic, as BOTH are pointlessly suing each other.
Both of these so called 'big boys' are such kids. Grow up! And anyone who thinks only one side is at fault (which clearly seems to include most of the comments in this topic) desperately needs a reality check.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 13:05
@damien2501 you really are truely dumb and you are the boy that said the iphone4s was the last quality built aoole product you never fail to make people laught at you and its very funny how you gone all quiet
anonymous 26 October, 2012 13:16
@anonymong you desperately need a reality check you are stupid telling passiinate readers what to think and say. you clearly know nothing and need to SHUT UP
anonymous 26 October, 2012 13:25
Very unprofessional behaviour for apple. This sounds like an 'apology' written by a sulky 12 year old ..They've really went all out trying to fill the notice with as much bull**** as possible. I really do hope the judge has some sense and takes their slimy hides back into the courtroom because this is just pure rubbish.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 13:43
Well done Apple. Follow the letter of the law, and make NO EXCUSES for your fantastic work. Never repent when you have done nothing wrong - it is an admission of guilt. And to all of you posting ridiculous negative comments about Apple, come to your senses, buy one, and realise how stupid you have been!
anonymous 26 October, 2012 14:18
This is just one of the unlimited reasons why I hate Apple. It's pretty much saying, buy our product if you want to be a pretentious douchebag, this company actually makes me feel sick. And Apple products aren't cool, they're boringly simple, everyone has them which completely loses exclusivity, and you have to use itunes! You're all sheep.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 14:24
More PR by Apple that ignores at least half of the 'truth' .... I don't see them mentioning the dozens of lawsuits they've lost on this issue besides the one they are in theory 'apologising' for. It never ceases to amaze me how many adverts Apple have made (including when Mr Steve 'God' Jobs was in charge) that outright lied about products and abilities. Repeatedly getting caught appears to have no real penalties and their marketing machine grinds on....
anonymous 26 October, 2012 15:24
If you people are up in arms about this, then you should quit society and go live in a hole. If you buy anything these days, anything not made by the guy down the street, then odds are you are buying something from a company that, in one way or another, has proven to be "bad". Do you think Microsoft is innocent, IBM, GE, Samsung, IKEA, Nike, Chrysler? Why would you bash people for buying something they find more appealing? It is their money. You buy whatever other crapola because that's how you feel. If I feel like paying more money for something because I think it works better or looks better or whatever, why should you feel threatened by that?
anonymous 26 October, 2012 15:43
@anonymous 13:43 Bought a 64 gb 4th gen iPod touch. Same issues as with Zune except I payed like $150 less and got a 120 GB music player. Every piece of tech has issues and bugs. There is no such thing as a perfect computer, pad, phone, mp3 etc. The only difference is how much you are going to spend on it. The thing with Apple is that they are creating this image is that their products are perfection. What can I not do on my TP-201 that can be done on an Ipad?
Leszcz 26 October, 2012 15:59
this is ridicolous
anonymous 26 October, 2012 16:11
Nothing like a bit of Cnet linkbait to bring out the Apple haters. Same old arguments, Apple products are rubbish and anyone who buys them is an idiot Apple fanboy.
aydins 26 October, 2012 16:17
Big business is not cool in anyway (marketing) and can’t be trusted to do anything but make as much money as possible in any way they can (the successful ones at least)that is why we have regulations/bodies/laws to attempt to try to keep them in check – look at what the banks have done, so no point sticking up for any of them. However if you did want to….. look at the growth of the likes of Samsung and LG et al - this was achieved first by ripping off IP/products and design of the Japanese IT consumer industry (TV’s etc) for years at great expense to the Japanese economy, and sure is now ingrained in their corp culture. There is no doubt they have ripped off Apple’s design and ideas big time so can understand Apple making a big deal about this – so can’t understand the strong anti Apple big brother feelings – I think they have legitimate grounds and can understand their aggressive approach.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 16:42
Apple are just crying little bitches because samsung are the leading moble manufactuers and they cant compete. ahh poor apple, man up and apologise properly idiots.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 17:04
@aydins - youre a pointless fanboy that will excuse Apple no matter what they do, while failing (or willfully ignoring) the fact that they have turned to litigation as a means of trying to keep competition down rather than just releasing a superior product. EVERYTHING Apple has done has been done by others first, they just streamlined and simplified existing technologies so that the everyday numpty could use it. 'Apple Innovation' is one of the greatest oxymoronic lies of our time, perpetuated by the droning iZombies who feel such a huge need for some sort of brand exclusivity...by buying a device that looks exactly like every single one of the other tens of millions out there.
Steve Jobs was a deadbeat dad, a narcissistic egomaniac and a totalitarian control freak and yet the iClones were hailing him as a saint when he died. Its such a pathetic joke and shows how devoid of morals and integrity our society has become, that a terrible human being is practically canonized because he made cool gadgets. Pathetic.
Apple makes things. Samsung makes things. Anyone with half a brain should be able to see that they, and every other tech manufacturer out there, borrow relentlessly from each other and that most of the so-called "patent infringements" on nonsense like LTE and rounded corners and making a rectangle with some glass, are a spurious joke and a laughable waste of legal resources by all involved. Good allocation of money though. Not like it could have gone to something like say, feeding homeless people or researching a viable renewable energy source or a thousand other real things.
Yay Apple though...yayyyyy. Clap f***ing clap.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 17:38
Nothing about this Apple "apology" surprises me, supremely arrogant and contemptuous as always. Looking forward to them paying for their contempt of the court ruling.
I'd also would like to see Samsung start worldwide court cases saying Apple stole "their" 7 inch form factor...
Chris Denton 'Ichi' 26 October, 2012 18:02
This kind of behavior by Apple doesn't surpise me. :-\
anonymous 26 October, 2012 18:12
Not strange I just say Apple is desperate, cause tthey know eventually they wont compete against other products. They have to fight LG, Samsung. Asus, Motorola, Google. They wont be able to fight it alone. This just demostrates that they fear all smartphones!
ItsAllGood 26 October, 2012 18:34
Arrogance and bitter grapes. LOL!
Interesting part is the negative message that this letter is sending to our youth.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 18:39
Very childish from Apple but not unexpected.
Apple failed to mention in their 'apology' that they have had their bounce-back patent preliminarily invalidated by the US patent office. So Apple wont be getting that 1 billion dollars from Samsung.
Let's hope the US patent office look at more patents with prior art or obvious designs that have been previously granted to this aggressive litigator.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 19:30
Some of the idiots here who enjoy bashing those that wish to buy Apple products are so juvenile and most can't spell to save their lives. Do they not realise that some of us have been buying Apple computers for quite a while because we have to use them for our work. We also buy the other products like iPods and iPads because they work seamlessly with the computers on our desks. Now s0d off......
anonymous 26 October, 2012 20:05
Fantastic, more work for the lawyers, more cost for the companies, higher prices for the consumers. What a set of prsts on both sides!
anonymous 26 October, 2012 20:08
19:30 poster; liking for the products can go hand in hand with dislike for the stupidity and arrogance of the company itself.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 20:20
Right they are just being sore losers. It's not good to be like that. I would like to see a lawsuit between apple and samsung regarding that statement as apple are not following the ruling, which was to assert that the galaxy tablet does not copy the ipad. They have not done that. In my opinion, apple has lost all my respect and I'm not buying any apple products any time soon.
Cat San 26 October, 2012 20:27
Be interesting to see if |Samsung take them back to court over this non-apology or if the judge calls Apple back about it. More than likely nothing will happen in that sense but I'm betting Samsung will post on their website about the apology.
anonymous 26 October, 2012 21:08

Joseph Ryan McCrocklin 26 October, 2012 22:52
I honestly cannot believe anyone would defend Apple after this stunt. Those of you who HAVE to use it because your company requires it for some un-goldy reason, I pity you, but I do understand you reason for defense. Those of you who buy it just because it's and iSomething, you are at fault here, you dolts who idolized Jobs and worshiped both the company and it's products are the reason that Apple became so arrogant as a company. I take my second statement back, those of you who are forced to use it buy your company are at fault to... If you don't like a product that your company uses then you find a way to make your product of choice work with your products, there are many conversion applications out there. Just find the one that works for you, if you cannot find it, then you are undeserving of the products that you have been blessed with. Those of you who are defending Apple over this apology, you are even more at fault. The Apple marketing team sees posts in places like this, in-fact, I'm almost certain they have an algorithm loaded onto a computer somewhere in their marketing office that searches day and night for anything involving them as a company.
Oh and @anonymous 26 October, 2012 19:30; You are a complete idiot, there was one person who was bashing Apple who couldn't spell, the rest of us had near perfect spelling. Regarding your statement about getting the products, because they work seamlessly together, see my statement above and sod off yourself.

Anonymous above, keep telling yourself that as you endlessly stare at a grid of icons on your playpen of an operating system. If you upgrade you can get an extra row! Boring, boring, boring.
Maybe apple as a company may one day see that people like choice and to attempt to restrict peoples choice will only upset them. I myself am upset with apple.
grandcruclasse 27 October, 2012 10:10
Hmmm, it'd be interesting to hear the thoughts of the presiding judge in the case. I'd suspect that this could be bordering on contempt of court which in the UK can carry a jail sentence. *fingers crossed, praying for this to happen*
anonymous 27 October, 2012 12:27
The conditions specified for the previously ordered "apology" were reviewed following the recent High Court appeal against the original judgement.
It may be that this "apology" has been drawn up entirely within the conditions laid down by the review.
anonymous 27 October, 2012 12:48
A not entirely unexpected reaction from such an arrogant company, which in no way, shape or form can that be seen as anything like an apology. The tone in which it has been written is akin to that of a petulant, spoiled child. The Judge clearly ruled that Apple should apologise. They haven't. I sincerely hope he finds them in contempt of court, because that is an utterly shameful act on the part of Apple.
anonymous 27 October, 2012 17:12

Bravo, couldn't put it any better myself. If only there were more people like you there would've been none of this mass frenzied apple-worshipping hysteria in the first place and with it apple's grossly unethical business practices born out of arrogance.
As I keep telling people Apple are THE supreme plagiarists bar none, copying and stealing other people's ideas and work and craftily repackaging them as their own with the aid of their beautifully slick PR machine. And the way these idrones have fallen hook, line and sinker for jobs' marketing hype over the past 4-5 years will set the standard for human gullibility that will probably never be surpassed.
At least Samsung is here to stay. Just give it 3 years, Samsung will have wiped the floor with apple by then, mark my words.
jezza 28 October, 2012 00:21
@ Joseph Ryan McCrocklin. In light of your comment, and I quote, "You are a complete idiot, there was one person who was bashing Apple who couldn't spell, the rest of us had near perfect spelling". Please read through your post again and then come and see the teacher after class - I spotted 5 at least.
Seriously though, and this is to everyone, this is a forum for comments, not insults. Try not being rude to each other, it works.
jezza 28 October, 2012 00:47
@ aydins. Please don't defend the Japanese or indeed any country as though they have been hard done by. The Japanese started out after the war by copying popular and successful products, and then improving them - their motorcycle industry is a case in point. One of the first Kawasaki motorcycles was more or less a straight copy of a BSA, I think. Now BSA are long gone, and Kawasaki are a major manufacturer. Ultimately, we the consumers are the winners, as companies copy, improve and innovate. It's just a shame the Apple have decided that litigation is the way forward. I think that time will show that they are wrong, and that their actions will only damage their company image.
anonymous 28 October, 2012 03:14
Come on Samsung take Apple to court again if they no apology .You have the right now get them
apology in new paper as well over their web site
anonymous 28 October, 2012 05:11
anonymous 27 October, 2012 17:12 - “.....If only there were more people like you there would've been none of this mass frenzied apple-worshipping hysteria in the first place and with it apple's grossly unethical business practices born out of arrogance.”
There is no “mass frenzied Apple-worshipping hysteria” on this forum or any other I’ve read. The only frenzied hysteria is from people like you, with this obsessive and frankly, quite worrying and hysterical anti-Apple hatred.
If you want to talk about unethical business practices, Apple are probably the last place to start when looking at the technology field. Just have a look at the company you are championing in your post.
Are you even aware of the long list of serious controversies surrounding that Korean monolith and the various campaigns to raise awareness of these controversies ?
Unless you are an agitator, paid to spread this nonsense, then you are either filled with malice or simply deluded.
anonymous 28 October, 2012 07:18
Sorry, but there is “mass frenzied Apple-worshipping hysteria”. I did not write that comment, but having seen the queues in Brighton at the apple store on the launch day of the iPhone 5, I think that those quing fit that phrase. Seriously it is just a phone and it was a Friday as well so some of those would have taken the day off of work!
I myself don't hold a single company in such high regard. I own a Samsung phone, I am aware of the use of Chinese labour to produce this phone, just like I'm aware of the use of Chinese labour to produce the iPhone. No one comes out smelling of roses. Sadly this is the world we live in. Will it continue? No. Why? Because we in the UK aren't growing like countries such as China, they enjoy growth rates of +10% and have no deficit. So at some point goods will increase in price as the labour to produce them will require more pay. This is already starting to cause friction with workers such as at Foxconn.
Getting back to the thread of apples apology. I have no respect for Apple as a company because they are pursuing a strategy of litigation to restrict their rivals. Plain and simple. Their products are well built in look and feel, but they are not as special as some make out. Their operating system is easy to use but to me it is frustrating. So I myself want to buy products that are not made by Apple as they are too restrictive. Why should I NOT be angry with Apple when they attempt to remove their rivals products from market? I or some other consumer may want to buy them.
Loadit 29 October, 2012 17:27
The court now should charge Apple with contempt of court as they have definitely not apologised as the court ordered. The Lower additions actually surmount to disobedience.
Hope the judge follows up on this. As results in other courts are not relevant to the judges decision.
neilpost 30 October, 2012 17:17
I'd love it if the judge hauled their arses back in for a Contempt of Court hearing.

I am no Apple fanboy, but anyone can see that the resurrection of tablets and the innovation of touchscreen phones is down to other companies following Apple's innovative products. Samsung's S2 looks exactly like an iphone. I can' believe they didn't win their lawsuit, but that aside, once they have failed and ordered to apologise, they should do so gracefully.
