Despite some delays in shipping, and even some reported problems with the screen, Google and Asus' Nexus 7 tablet is flying off the shelves. So much so that the 16GB is now sold out, Pocketnow reports.
Head to the Google Play store and you'll see the 16GB version is listed as 'Coming Soon'. You can sign up to be emailed when it's back in stock.
The 8GB version is still listed as 'In Stock', with a delivery time of three to five business days.
This comes just a few days after Google updated customers on exactly when the Nexus 7 would ship. If you pre-ordered the 8GB version, you should have it by now -- all being well -- while those after the 16GB will have to wait until next week. (If you pre-ordered, that is. Though our very own Nick Hide received his on Thursday, the lucky so and so.)
Judging from the comments from some stories regarding the Nexus 7, Google has a lot of work to do when it comes to keeping people informed about the status of their purchases. The update this week was the first many had heard, and while Google upgraded some orders to next day delivery, many think it's lacking in the customer service department.
Some Nexus 7 devices have had some issues with the screen as well. One owner posted a snap of his device leaking light out of the side, while others complained of a creaky bezel. Taking off the back panel and tightening a couple of screws seemed to remedy the latter though.
Have you had any issues with your Nexus 7? Or are you still waiting for it to arrive? What do you make of Google's customer service? Let me know in the comments below, or over on our Facebook page.

Delivery charges when pre-ordering with Google was £9.99. Its outrageous that the pre-orders have not been delivered yet...even after the tablets were available and sold out at physical retailers. Makes a mockery of the pre-ordering process. At least it guarantees getting one but the customer service has been appalling. Very little information from Google. Very, very poor handling of the release.

Pre-ordered mine from Ebuyer as they weren't charging for delivery and still got the £15 voucher, got the 16GB version the weekend before it was meant to be shipped on the 19th. V happy with I so far :-D

We pre-ordered from google, still don't have our 16GB Nexus 7, have been charged delivery and are about to cancel the order out of frustration. We could have pre-ordererd from ebuyer and got it already without delivery charge? Google have shown total disregard for us UK customers ordering from them direct.

Pre-ordered and very frustrated.
Tried contacting customer service through the Play store, got absolutely no response to emails, also the phone number just went dead - if this was any other company, it'd be seen as a scam!
Got so frustrated I actually sent an email asking for the order to be cancelled so I could order it from Tesco's, but a few minutes later saw reports of it being sold out, so quickly sent another email asking them to ignore my original request ;)

Received my 16GB nexus 7, preordered from Google play, on Thursday last week. No manufacturing problems, and a wonderful device. Have hardly put it down since. Am putting this comment in using it.

Ordered from Ebuyer. Was excited when I read people were getring theres early. Ends up that despite ordering BEFORE some of these recipients and despite having a date of 17th July Next to my order It hasn't budged. Instead a date of restock of August 4 and now August 10th has appeared and I am left reading comments of how good the Nexus is from those who ordered after me.
So I just ordered from Dixons. A company I can't stand but it was in stock. Whether I get the 15 quid voucher i don't know but rather annoyed re this entire shambles. Better be worth it or it's going back.

Ordered mine, 16 GB, from p.c world last monday (16/Jul) and goit it on Friday (20th). Feel lucky to get this so soon and easily considering what problems people have been having. The device is well built, solid in the hands, and a delight to use. Only problem is no flash... so miss my anime streaming! HTML5 video streaming works just fine. Apparently you can ''work-around' the flash issue (Thanks to XDA-devs for instructions) but have yet to try their solutions. Overall very happy with this little beast of device :)

Not surprised the 8gb isn't selling as well as the 16gb. The problem with the 8GB is that not everyone has access to Google's cloud. In Australia, I can't listen to music on it unless I upload my own music using up all the memory (and I have a lot of music)
I would have purchased an 8gb if I didn't have to upload my own music :)

I ordered my 16GB model from Staples on Monday the 16th, and received it on Thursday the 19th. I am apparently very lucky to have gotten an order in and get it delivered so quickly.
No problems - I'm liking it a lot. I have gotten the Sony Reader App installed, so I'm in the process of getting my Sony Book reader loaded over to this device.

Received my Play preordered 16gb on Friday. It's great but unfortunately I have the screen/bezel issue. Screw tightening didn't work. Waiting for a replacement

Must be one of the odd ones out here... preordered 16GB from Google on the day it was announced, and got mine on Thursday 19th problem free. And yes, it really is a fantastic device!
Any word on the cases / chargers?

I per ordered my Nexus 7 on 30 June and it arrived last Thursday, I've been playing with it ever since. I did find Google were poor in communication as I sent a chase email but did not receive a reply, maybe because the device was delivered a couple of days later!
The build quality is excellent and I love Jelly Bean and I am having fun with Google Now.

I know it's frustrating but people have to understand that during busy times any company will struggle to get prompt responses to emails out. Anyone who has worked in any kind of office job that involves a lot of email contact will know what I'm talking about. People, no matter what the company or question, expect instant replies and it just is not possible a lot of the time, never mind at a time like Google are facing, with a wildly popular product launch.
I'm sure this will be disregarded as people would rather moan whenever their desperate need for instant gratification is not met, but it's the truth. Being inundated with emails and taking time to respond does not make their communications poor necessarily.
It's just like the fact that a few models have faults. It's going to happen when you mass produce something in a short period of time. Don't rage against the company, just accept that that is how it sometimes goes.
To be fair though, there are certain other companies that have years of experience as up there with the best online shops in the world that are equally awful, so don't hate Google for a problem that most such companies have. The idea of the customer care is an ancient, obsolete thing now unfortunately.
Anyway, I'm getting mine at the end of August and can't wait. I'm kind of glad that I didn't order right away as I've been able to see any issues and if they get resolved. It looks like the screen issue is being acknowledged and fixed by Google/Asus, so that's good. I think I'll buy mine in a shop as well, I really hate returning items to online stores, it's a complete nightmare.

Damn. You guys sure do ask for an awful lot of FB usage just to contribute to your site...
1) I didn't even know you can get hardware in the store 0_o
2) It's crazy how Asus & Google blew their pre-ordering process.
3) I'm amazed it sold out so quickly. I wonder what the exact numbers are...

i got mine 3 days after i Pre-order from JB-Hifi in AUS. You guys up there just think before you commented. The tablet is really cheap and the performance is oustanding, and they use third-party couriers that's why it cost extra money. If you don't like go to shop and buy it Stop whinging. Wait like everyone else who paid just like you. What make you're so special to it before me ????

Yes I whot one when can I bye one the Nexus 7 tablet.

A good product with a very important short fall. Surely a very portable 7" tablet should have 3G access? Not very good that the user has to rely on Wifi hotspots to access web content and mail. I'm sure Google could have done better, I can accept that Google wants to keep the price down but an option for 3G would have been sweet.
anonymous 24 July, 2012 08:44
Most tablets cost an extra £100 for 3G options though, so it would go from a bargain to iPad territory.
Most Google content can be made available offline, and it's not often that anyone is far from a wifi area these days, so I get why they went this way.
I do hope they'll release a 3G version in the future but in reality they're probably leaving that to other manufacturers.
If you've got a 4.3in+ smartphone though you could argue that you don't need a 7in tablet with 3G. I'd rather pay under £200 an only have wifi and use my phone when I'm out and about (just a shame that contract phones have ridiculous usage limits that mean watching shows/films on 3G is impossible for most.
Anyway, for the price it really is not a problem. It's incredibly unrealistic to think they could have put 3G on there and kept the price the same when other companies will charge an extra £100 for 3G!

I pre-ordered on July 8th from the play store (16gb) and am pretty irritated to read people who ordered only a few days ago (also in the UK) have already received their device. Very upsetting indeed Google! What happened to the first come first serve dealio the pre-orders usually apply?

Sounds like I am just one of many who is experience a total lack of service or concern from Google?
TNT didn't manage to show up when I was home and wasn't allowed to deliver to the neighbour (although the package my misses got from TNT the same day was dropped off just fine); TNT failed to bring out the package when I arranged for redelivery (5 days after the initial drop-off) and only other option would have been a Saturday delivery, which turned out to be a no-go due to the Olympics (yes, I am located smack in the middle of London .. "yay").
Had no option but refuse delivery and have so far heard NOTHING!
Over the course of the last week I have used the google wallet email form 5 times and not received ANY response; I have tried the phone number on top of the page twice and gotten a fax/modem (+353 (1) 436 1001).
I am at this moment beyond pissed!
I would have expected A LOT better service from a company like Google, but apparently core customers "pre-ordering" means "treat them like crap, charge them first and make sure they are the LAST to get their item"; I would have had my hands on the tablet more than a week ago had I NOT pre-ordered (and I would have saved the £9 shipping as well).
Oh well...when (if?) I ever get my £209 back, I guess Google have thoroughly proven to me that I'll be better off with an iPad - by the time the 7" iPad will be on the market anyway.

I had a Nexus 7 for 1 day, screen cracked why I cauldnt tell you. This device is rubbish the screen has obvious problems which ASUS know of, I spoke with their UK support yesterday & guess what the warrenty dosnt cover the screen & this is a touch device. Read the reports of the many, many people who have the very same problem I have. Tescos technical support comes in 1 word - NO, ASUS want another £200, Googles customer support dosnt exist. Apple products now look cheap to me as they do have a support system and appaer to rectify obvious design faults. Lesson learned I wouldnt rouch another pices of ASUS, Google hardware if you gave it to me, rubbish and expensive rubbish at that.
