Photos: 8-year-old tests XO laptops
Our friends over at sister site CNET News.com wanted to find out how the two models of the XO-1 (One Laptop Per Child) differ according to the people who really matter: the kids who will be using them.
So our US colleagues plonked down eight-year-old Ella Taggart, daughter of a CNET News.com editor, in front of the two versions to see what she thought. She spent an afternoon exploring the built-in software on each, looking up her spelling words on Wikipedia and attempting to visit her favourite Web sites.
On the outside, the Windows version looks just like the Linux model. But simply booting up the device shows that the Windows version bears little resemblance to the original One Laptop Per Child device. Click through to see Ella's verdict.
