Fujitsu Siemens LifeBook S6420: Mullet makes a comeback

Laptops

This time last year, Fujitsu Siemens released the LifeBook S6410, a 1.75kg ultraportable laptop with built-in 3G. We thought it was 'very good', as you'll see from our review, so we were excited to get our hands on its successor -- the S6420.

The chassis is pretty much identical to the previous machine: it has a fairly uninspiring black lid and a slightly more exciting white keyboard. It's as if it's trying to be the mullet of laptops -- it has something for business customers as well as regular Joe Six-Packs. Whoever they are.

What's different this time around is the specification. Instead of the Core 2 Duo T7300 CPU, 2GB of RAM and 80GB hard drive in the S6410, you get a Centrino 2-certified 2.53GHz Core 2 Duo T9400 CPU, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB drive. It also has a DVD rewriter drive, a spill-proof keyboard, 802.11n Wi-Fi and integrated 3G.

Pricing and release date are still to be confirmed, but if the last machine's anything to go by, it should clock in at around £1,000. We'll update the story when we know more. -Rory Reid
