HP Pavilion dv4, dv5, dv7 and Presario CQ50 laptop photos

HP has today unveiled three new series of consumer multimedia Pavilion laptops, the dv4, dv5 and dv7. In addition to some swanky touch-sensitive controls, the HP Pavilion dv4 is the first consumer laptop from HP to include HSDPA mobile broadband Internet access.

As for other gubbins inside the new ranges, you have some choices to choose from, including Blu-ray disc support and integrated TV tuners, and of course a choice between Intel and AMD CPUs, the entry-level models being backed up by the latter manufacturer.

Hard disks max out at 320GB in the dv4 and dv5, and 640GB in the dv7. RAM clocks in at a maximum of 4GB of DDR2 for all models.

HP also includes HP's ProtectSmart hard disk protection to help prevent data loss from accidental knocks and bumps -- a feature previously only available in HP's business laptops.

The dv4's multimedia capabilities can be enjoyed on a 14.1-inch display -- the smallest screen size within the new range. The dv5 hits 15.4-inches, and the dv7 17 inches. All come with an optional upgrade to HP BrightView Infinity Widescreen flush-glass screens.

Other features include LightScribe CD label creation, built-in webcams, 5-in-1 card readers, HDMI output, 802.11n Wi-Fi and fingerprint readers.

They'll all be available later this month, with prices starting at £795 for the dv4 and dv5, and £849 for the dv7.

New today also is the Compaq Presario CQ50 series -- an attractive option for the cheapskates truly budget-minded, with prices starting at a meagre £349, also from later this month.

It comes with a 15.4-inch display, a choice of AMD Sempron and Athlon CPUs, up to 2GB of RAM and 250GB of HDD space, built-in 802.11b/g, Nvidia graphics and a built-in webcam.
