Elonex webbook: Free mini laptop at Carphone Warehouse

Just when you thought the mini laptop market couldn't get any more saturated, along comes Elonex with yet another miniature machine. No, it's not the Elonex One, which we reported on a few months ago, this one's an all-new gizmo called the Elonex webbook. We imagine that's pronounced 'Web book', not 'webbuck', but we'll leave that up to you.
It's becoming increasingly easy to dismiss these things as Eee PC copycats, but the webbook looks good in its own right. It uses a 10.2-inch display, which we're guessing runs at the same 1,024x600-pixel resolution as the MSI Wind -- and like most of these things, it'll ship in both Linux and Windows XP versions.
It'll ship with Wi-Fi, three USB ports, an unnamed 1.6GHz processor -- probably either the Via C7M or Atom N270 -- and it'll only weigh 1.3kg, so you can toss it into a hand or manbag with the minimum of effort.
You'll be able to buy the webbook from the Carphone Warehouse as a standalone unit, or get it for 'free' as part of a broadband package -- details of which will be confirmed shortly. Pricing is still TBC, but we can tell you it'll be launched in the middle of June. That's this month, people!

for a 'web book' it seems to have a really crappy WiFi reciever which makes it almost impossible to use hotspots unless you're sitting right on top of the router at the time you're doing a google search

ive got one and i find that the wifi is practially the same as my normal laptops wifi reception. ive also got it hooked upto the internet via my nokia n95, although getting it to work via the linux software was a challenge. its a great little item and i cant complain as it came with my new orange mobile contract! the only issue so far is the mouse seems to get stuck now and again on the screen. apart from that its light, compact and does all i need it too. just working on a rig to use it in the car via the fold out screen thats in there :)

"it'll ship..." Yea right it'll ship, and pigs'll fly when it comes to elonex, just ask the 200,000+ people who ordered the elonex one then the onet months ago and are still waiting or have cancelled their order.

i ordered and paid in full for a ONET laptop on 28th June and im still waiting for despatch!! everytime i email elonex they say there's a further delay and it will be 7-10 days for despatch! that's over 2 months now i've been waiting for this and i bought it for my daughter's birthday which was 4 weeks ago!!
