Lenovo X300: MacBook Air Murderer? Yes. Sort of

Laptops such as the MacBook Air and Sony Vaio TZ series have proven that slim is indeed the new phat. Today, Lenovo unveiled its own skinny laptop in the form of the ThinkPad X300 -- which the blogosphere has already dubbed the 'MacBook Air killer'.

The X300's chassis is 19mm thick when closed -- slightly smaller than a £1 coin -- so it isn't quite as svelte as the Air. Its 1.33kg weight is comparable though, and it's packed to the rafters with features that make the Air look a little stupid, really. Although that was never going to be difficult.

Both laptops use the same 13.3-inch screen size, but the X300 has a higher 1,440x900-pixel resolution. It also accommodates up to 4GB of memory, a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo CPU, three USB ports (three!), wireless USB, GPS and a 64GB solid-state hard drive. At the time of writing, traditional drives with moving parts aren't an option.

Prices start at a pocket-bruising £1,997 (blame that SSD) and you can buy it shortly from Lenovo. Watch for a review in the coming days. -Rory Reid
