Photos: Toshiba's Qosmio G45 multimedia darling
We've just spent an afternoon playing with a Toshiba Qosmio G45 entertainment laptop, and to cut a long story short, we think it's pretty sweet. It's fast, has loads of disk space, and more multimedia bells and whistles than you can shake a very long stick at.
Toshiba has done a very good job from an aesthetic point of view. The lid is a glossy black colour and the inside is finished in a stunning, glossy white veneer, complemented by gallons of blue LED lighting. Think of it as a giant, futuristic MacBook.
Highlights include a silver volume knob (pictured) on the left side, a matching navigation pad on the right, and five separate speakers. Yes, we said five -- there are two below the screen, two hidden in the screen bezel, and a subwoofer underneath. All are Harmon Kardon-branded, so they sound better than the speakers you'll find in your dad's IBM.
Inside, it uses a T7500 CPU that hits 2.2GHz, 4GB of RAM, and up to two separate 160GB hard disk drives. Graphics come in the form of an Nvidia GeForce 8700 GT with 512MB of onboard memory. That pipes video through the 17-inch 1,920x1,200-pixel (better than 'Full HD') display, which we have to concede looks stunning.
The Qosmio G45 comes with an infrared remote control, an HD DVD writer, and will set you back $2,999 (£1,500). Click through for more pictures and watch out for a full review soon. -Rory Reid
