Sony Vaio TZ series: Stalk-worthy ultra-portable laptops

Nobody makes sexy laptops quite like Sony. We've written love poetry for the TX2, camped outside in the bushes for the Vaio TX5, and now we're all set to stalk its latest pint-size portable, the Vaio TZ.

The TZ series is a group of 11.1-inch laptops that weigh a paltry 1.19kg -- about the same as a bag of sugar. They're available in black, platinum sand and carbon fibre finishes, all of which include a fingerprint reader, up to 100GB of hard-disk space, and an instant-on feature for watching movies without booting Vista.

Goodness knows how Sony has managed to cram a DVD rewriter in the chassis -- but it's done it. It has also shoe-horned an Intel Core 2 Duo U7500 (1.06GHz) ultra-low-voltage processor and 2GB of RAM into it.

First impressions are that it's incredibly sexy. We love the MacBook-style keyboard, the gorgeous non-smudge, matte-black finish, and the screen is beautiful too, despite its size. It doesn't boast Santa Rosa, which is highly disappointing, and there's the small matter of forking out £1,899 for our review sample (part number: VGNTZ11VN/X.CEK). But at least Sony has given us the option of having a version with a 32GB solid-state hard drive (that'll be £2,099, please).
