The bamboo is natural so it is, of course, biodegradable. Each of the panels can be recycled separately, so you can be confident that your fancy new laptop is kind to the environment.

Ummm ... trees don't grow back? I think this is a cool idea and am contemplating modding my Toshiba laptop with some awesome burl veneer I have downstairs. ;-)
Tip: trees DO grow back. That's why they work so well as carbon sinks. Help the environment, chop down a tree. ;-)

Cool - can you smoke it, too?

Sure the casing is "eco-friendly" but the contents of the computer is still the same. So it's a shame to say that this computer is friendly to the environment unless the internal components are also made out of bambu?

The photos look really nice and I would love to have such a stylish laptop but lets be really honest about the "eco" credentials. How much electricity is used by the machines used to work on the bamboo to make the casings? How much diesel fuel is used in going to and from the plantations to harvest the bamboo and bring it to the factories? Anyone who has ever been in the Far East and seen trucks labouring along country roads, belching black smoke as they carry bamboo poles or logs to the mills will be under no illusion that using wood covers on a PC or laptop is a way of reducing carbon emissions. I very much doubt if the carbon footprint of this laptop's total production cycle is lower than that of a "normal" laptop.

By "grow back" he means you can mow it like grass and it will grow back out of the same stump. Trees need to be replanted.

Trees can be cut and they grow back. Its called coppicing (regrowth from stump). Tagasaste, Acacia, Casuarina & Eucalypts work well here in Aust. :)

"The bamboo is natural so it is, of course, biodegradable. Each of the panels can be recycled separately, so you can be confident that your fancy new laptop is kind to the environment."
What substance is used to bond the laminates of bamboo into sheets? Unless it too is biodegradable, then it is impossible to recycle these pointless panels. This is utter bullshit - a badly conceived marketing plan, the product of which is a tasteless piece of useless waste.
Those who say they want one must be on medication of some sort.

Having a bamboo case is the only thing that's ever tempted me away from my Mac. I won't switch, but it's certainly a feature that I hope Steve Jobs picks up on.

This is an absurd scheme aimed at your typical tree hugger that thinks that the paper they write on is killing the environment. I own a TREE FARM! Believe me I love cutting down this RENEWABLE resource....also known as TREES! I read on another website (www.treehugger.com) that it is CARDBOARD lined....I think that is made of TREES! Also no electroplating...what happens when this laptop encounters a magnet??? It's not that I don't love the planet or wish to harm it but geez....get a grip. It's like buying carbon credits to ease the guilt of using your private jet plane.

You keep calling bamboo wood, but it's GRASS!
That's right, the reason it's so eco-friendly is because you can cut it down and it will grow back, unlike trees.
