Sony Vaio S5VP touches down

When it comes to stylish, functional laptops, very few do it better than Sony. The latest addition to the company's burgeoning notebooks range is the Vaio S5VP -- the successor to the S4M.

As you'd expect, this machine is a bit of a looker. It's got the familiar Vaio logo etched into the lid so you'll have no trouble securing the admiring glances of fellow commuters.

It weighs in at just under 2kg and measures just 312.5 x 30 x 225mm so you won't have any trouble taking it on the move. It's not as small as the ridiculously sexy Vaio TX1XP, but being that little bit bigger means bucket-handed users should find it easier to type on.

Despite its slender proportions, our sample uses 1GB of Ram and a 2.13GHz Pentium M processor -- the fastest in the range. It won't shy away from a few 3D games either. It uses an Nvidia Geforce Go 6400 graphics card in conjunction with its excellent 13.3-inch screen, so you can enjoy a quick bout of Half-Life 2 in between spreadsheet sessions.
