Today, CeBIT sees the arrival of a new range of budget sat-nav GPS systems from Garmin -- the nüvi 200 (pictured), nüvi 250 and the nüvi 270. These new models are a bold new venture for Garmin, whose GPS systems have previously been tailored towards the more demanding consumer, with the company's focus being high-end navigation systems.
The new nüvi 200 series is a step towards providing ultra-stylish, sleek and pocketable GPS systems to people who simply want to get where they want to be and don't want to take out a second mortgage. These new systems work right out of the box and require absolutely no experience with GPS or a degree in cartography to operate.
Like all sat-nav products, the nüvi 200, 250 and 270 all feature touch-screen navigation and will display crisp, full-colour maps. Unlike some sat-navs however, this new series of products come with the antenna built into the unit -- no fold-away aerials to mess around with here. We're assuming this was to ensure the systems retain a minimal cosmetic appeal, without compromising performance. Signal reception will remain as high as with a normal external antenna.
All models in the new 200 series feature voice-prompted 'turn-by-turn' technology, quickly recalculating a route to get you back on track if you take a wrong turning.
Also new at CeBIT is the Garmin nüvi 660FM, which adds FM transmission of voice prompts to a car stereo, to the established and feature-packed nüvi 660 model. Click through for more photos. -NL

The Garmin 200 usb cable is the normal one used for many applications ie same one used to connect most digital video cameras etc.
I used the standard cable to download updates etc from Garmin sites ; no problems

The trouble is, if you have a heat reflective windscreen like on most European cars these days, you will need an external antenna (with all sat navs) - on the nuvi there is nowhere to plug it in!

does any one know how i can change the voice on my Nuvi 200?

The Nuvi 200 has no problems with my windshield in my 2005 model Citroen C5, while my old Garmin etrex Legend needs to aquire satellites outside the car. So no need for an external antenna for the nuvi 200.

It should be possible to change voice if you can find a new file. When you attach the nuvi to your computer you should see it as a disk and have full access to the content. You will find a Voice folder with *.sum and *. vpm files.
What we are missing is information on the format etc. of these and the many other file types used; maps are *.img and *.sum and I see three types on mine: gmapbmap (world base map?), gmapoem (something my vendor has added with his stores ??), gmapprom (the built-in map) and gmapsupp, which I added using MapSource. My nuvi 200 uses only ca. 200 MB of the 512 MB capacity, so there is plenty of room for other maps POI's etc., plus I can add a 2 GB SD card. If my vendor can make a gmapoem with it's own icon category in the Find? menu, it should be possible to make your own "collections" i would like to add e.g. "Friends and family", instead of stuffing up my Favorites

What planet are these people on? Inbuilt annenae have been commonplace for years!
