Socket SoMo 650-M: PDAs aren't dead
Tags: wi fi, pda, windows mobile, fi
No, you haven't travelled back in time: this is a PDA. It might not do futuristic things like make phone calls, send text messages or take pictures, but if you're not bothered by those fancy features then this might be right up your street. It's called the Socket SoMo 650-M and costs around £450 -- which we think is ridiculous.
Aimed at the service industry, this rugged Windows Mobile 5 PDA looks retro but it's extremely sturdy and boasts a large touchscreen, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an Intel processor running at 624MHz, an SD and CF slot with the option to add barcode scanners for when you fancy scanning all the tins in your cupboard. Binatone Carrera X350: Zebra-print sat-nav for £80
Tags: maps, installed, pen, nav
Let's get the most important fact about the Binatone Carrera X350 out of the way. It's available with a zebra-print fascia. If you need more information on this bargain- basement sat-nav we'd be very surprised. But what follows are the non-zebra print details about this £80 GPS device.
For your 80 squids you get an 89mm (3.5-inch) screen, which is capable of directing you to your destination in a 3D or 2D manner, should you have an aversion to the third dimension. There's also spoken navigation available, with turn-by-turn instructions. You also get told where the government is keeping its little road-side piggy banks speed cameras, so you can ensure you're sticking to the speed limit.

KingNeed iBible Pro: Yes, it really is an e-Bible
Tags: calendar, pda, speaker, bible
Here's something you don't see every day, to put it mildly, but despite the 'i' in the product name, it's not from Apple. It's an electronic Bible reader and PDA. No, your eyes are not deceiving you. Someone has indeed invented such a device.
The Chinese-made gadget isn't particularly remarkable to look at, and has most of the functions a normal PDA would. Running specially written software rather than Windows Mobile or Palm OS, it comes with a stylus for you to operate everything via the 81mm (3.2-inch) touchscreen. Click here for more

Mio C620: Sat-nav with 3D sights
Tags: nav, navs, paper, stores
Sat-navs are rapidly replacing paper maps, with more and more drivers opting to rely on GPS rather than having to pull over on the motorway and stare blankly at an A-Z for hours -- and avoiding arguments with your passenger-cum-navigator.
Mio is a relatively unknown sat-nav company in the UK (albeit a large brand globally), but one which is starting to make big waves due to its competitively priced products and slick designs.
The Mio C620 is one of its latest sat-navs and comes with a widescreen display and speed camera warnings straight out of the box. There's also Bluetooth for connecting your mobile and making hands-free calls via the built-in speaker and mic. Click here for more

Tags: mio, gps, fi, windows mobile
Listen up roadrunners, we've got another competition for you -- one that's going to make life on the open road a little easier to deal with.
Thanks to Mio, we're giving away two P550 sat-nav PDAs -- Windows Mobile smart phones with built-in GPS and Wi-Fi. If these don't get you out and about, we don't know what will.
This £250 navigation device boasts a highly sensitive SiRFstar III GPS chipset, which picks up satellite signals faster and retains them better, regardless of your location. You can then use the optional MioMap v3 software to calculate routes at high speeds and the integrated safety camera database will keep you informed of any potential checks on the road ahead. Pocket Surfer 2: Free mobile Internet, unbelievably fast
Tags: datawind, proxy, gadget, gprs
In a hot, luxurious room last night, a gathering of media and business professionals were told the next generation of mobile Internet was here. It's called the Pocket Surfer 2 and it's made by a company called DataWind. Sceptical, we certainly were. DataWho? But we also spent the duration of the presentation with our eyebrows continually raising, mouths continually being drawn closer to the ground.
We used the Pocket Surfer 2 and it really is deeply impressive. Why? Because it offers completely free mobile Internet -- the full Internet -- at speeds faster than any BlackBerry, any Nokia, and even the allegedly omnipotent Apple iPhone, even though it uses GPRS, not 3G. Click here for more

Palm Foleo: What is this thing?
Tags: palm, emails, wi fi, browse
Two years ago Jeff Hawkins, founder of Palm, mentioned in an interview that his company had an undercover third business. This mysterious division revolved around mobile computing, but he didn't give much else away.
Yesterday, Hawkins finally let the cat out of the bag by presenting the Foleo, a laptop-like device that runs on Linux and is designed to connect with your Treo. Is it a laptop? Is it a phone? No, it's neither. That's right -- Palm's third business is still a mystery.
The Foleo is designed to synchronise with your Treo so that you can read your emails on a larger screen and view attachments properly. It supports Word, Excel and PDF files, with the option to view a variety of picture formats, including JPEG and PNG. Click here for more

Route 66 Chicago 9000: Unravelling Europe
Tags: traffic, route, nav, tomtom
When Crave mentions sat-nav, our beloved readers probably think TomTom, possibly Garmin, or maybe even Navman. But, you guys should probably start adding Route 66 to your mental Rolodex of cool GPS devices.
We've just taken receipt of the trendily named Route 66 Chicago 9000, part of the new line of Route 66 sat-navs announced at CeBIT earlier in the year. The 9000 is the big daddy of the bunch and incorporates a 2GB SD card with detailed European maps, plus an RDS/TMC receiver -- the anti-traffic missile of sat-nav warfare.
The unit is fairly innocuous-looking. Its 4.3-inch screen is big and bright enough to see comfortably while hurtling along the motorway. Plus its 132 by 91 by 24mm dimensions and super-light 210g frame make it compact enough to slip into a hand/manbag when you're on foot patrol. Click here for more

Sony NV-U82, NV-U92T, NV-U52 and NV-U72T sat-navs
Tags: sony, pre, country, maps
Crave has sent one of its top secret agents out to Rhodes to check out some of Sony's new kit, including these new satellite-navigation systems (pictured) that come with all the latest features to keep you on track.
First up our agent had a sneak peek at the NV-U82 (bottom right), which boasts a large 122mm (diagonally) colour touchscreen. This screen supports a new system that lets you translate frequently used destinations into simple line drawings -- just sketch the particular shape on the screen and the device will direct you home, for instance. The NV-U82 comes with 512MB of on-board memory and is pre-loaded with individual country maps. You also have the option to receive Traffic Message Channel (TMC) updates. Click here for more
