8 Servers with small footprints
While servers may be at the less sexy end of green tech, they're certainly one area where an office can make significant cuts in its carbon emissions.
Virtualisation is the most obvious candidate for greening the datacentre by allowing businesses to run several virtual machines on a single piece of hardware. But there are a whole host of other ways to keep your server's carbon footprint down.
Manufacturers, for example, are continually introducing models with lower power consumption, while switching from supplying servers with AC to DC current could also chop energy bills. Then there's the question of cooling: rather than keeping servers at the right temperature with air conditioning, some companies are using fresh air instead.
