Fancy getting rewarded for splashing cash on eco products? Me too. Handily, a growing bunch of sites are catering for you, offering a mix of points, carbon offsets and free green products if you buy green gear through their portals. The latest contender to join the fray is Green Rewards, which arrives this month and promises to be "the UK's first green loyalty scheme."
The idea behind Green Rewards is simple: think Airmiles, but with sustainable products instead of air miles. The scheme's hooked up with high street names including Tesco, Boots, M&S, WHSmith, Austin Reed and more.
As a punter, you go via Green Reward's site to one of those big name partner sites, shop, earn 'Green Rewards Points' and -- once you've accrued enough -- burn those points on one of 500 eco products from Green Rewards' 'Green Shop'. You can also shop directly at the Green Shop, which'll snag you a higher number of points.
For reassurance, all those products have been vetted by one of the scheme's independent experts, which include 'The Carbon Coach', Dave Hampton. If you're feeling particularly altruistic, you can turn your points into carbon offsets or donations to an environmental charity.
The number of points you earn varies from partner to partner, so Green Rewards was unable to tell me how many points £10 spent at M&S, for example, would earn you. We'll all find out when the site goes live on 16 June 2008.
Of course, this isn't the only rewards scheme for buying green. Read on to discover four other cool sites that'll reward you for buying green stuff.
Have you tried any of these schemes? Did we leave a good green reward site off the list? Let us know in the comments.
