Facebook. Brilliant for wasting time, seeing how far school mates got in their careers and remembering mates' birthdays. But saving the planet? Maybe, if a new generation of green-themed Facebook applications have their way. In the past two days alone, both Greenpeace and Barclays bank have launched apps, so there's obviously something afoot. I've rounded up the best eco apps. Let me know which ones I've missed.
The Greener Glastonbury Giveaway
Just launched, this new app from Facebook gives you the chance to win tickets to this year's Glastonbury festival (yes, the supposedly 'controversial' Jay-Z one). Once installed, the idea of the app is to rack up points to upgrade your 'Glastonbury scene' on your Facebook profile. You earn points by inviting friends and joining Greenpeace UK's fan page. The six people with the most points will get tickets to Glasto. Watch out, the many-monickered Chloe Hannah-Pancake Delmonte is the one to beat.
The app also has some tips on how to green the real festival -- from not peeing in the stream to actually using the recycling and rubbish bags you get given on entry. For more on eco music, scope out our ultimate guide to this summer's green festivals.
