The panels work by capturing the downward pressure of dancers on individual panels measuring 65 x 65 cm. The pressure powers tiny generators beneath the floor which send electricity to a microchip controlling the LED lights on the floor surface. Sustainable Dance Club has a great video illustrating it.

Over a year, Club Watt estimates a 'normal' club with 180,000 visitors consumes 387,000kWh. To put that into context, a typical UK home uses around 3,000-3,500 kWh each year. By conserving energy use, Club Watt hopes it'll use as little as 270,000kWh.
