CO2Stats offsets your website's carbon output

How green is your website? CO2Stats is a free widget created by two US students which adds up the time visitors spend at your site and then estimates how much carbon dioxide is emitted in powering the PCs and servers involved -- before offsetting it.

The CO2Stats widget can be added to a website or blog just by cutting and pasting some code. Based upon visitor traffic, the service's ticker will count the carbon used and then for each pound of CO2 pay the equivalent in offsets to Sustainable Travel International. They in turn fund renewable energy and development in the developing world, in addition to green power projects in North America.

You may wonder why CO2Stats would pay to offset your carbon footprint. Well, it seems that while the founders are currently funding the offsets themselves they are -- unsurprisingly -- looking for sponsors.
