Photos: Hi-tech solar innovations

Morgan Solar is trying to make what are typically high-end concentrator devices much cheaper by using specially optimised plastic lenses, instead of glass lenses. As the light enters each triangle, it is amplified 1,000 times and focused onto high-performance cells placed along the aluminum frame. One reason the company thinks it can undercut other concentrators is because it doesn't need an active cooling system and because its materials are cheaper. This is a small prototype; the company plans to test a full-size, rack-mounted system next year.
