Solo, Duet & Trio energy monitors queue up to smash Wattson and OWL

Green Tech

The battle to help you measure your home's energy use is hotting up. Cambridge company Green Energy Options recently received a £250,000 cash boost, which it hopes will bring its next gen energy monitor gadgets to British homes by 2009.

The cash injection will help development of GEO's trio of energy monitors, the Solo, Duet and Trio (pictured below). The Solo is similar to the Wattson, OWL and other energy monitors SmartPlanet's rival start-up Ewgeco. It also has the ability to remotely turn up to six gadgets off at the plug.

The truly lust-worthy green gadget is the Trio, which adds a neat-looking touchscreen display and can work with even more remote plug adapters. All three energy monitors can upload your electricity consumption to a PC and are simple enough for DIY installs.

The monitors are due to go on sale next year. In the meantime, the £250K will help fund trials, including a Visible Energy Trial with the Uni of East Anglia. The cash investment came via the Thames Valley Investment Network in June this year.

"To date, with one or two exceptions, information has been presented in a rather dull and un-interesting manner," says Simon Anderson, GEO's chief operating officer. "That is what we are seeking to change."
