Nintendo 64
This is one of the most important joypads ever produced. Not only did the N64's controller feature an analogue joystick, which made playing games such as GoldenEye realistic and subtle, but it also featured a pistol-like trigger button underneath.
Unlike any gamepad before, the N64's spaceship-esque, three-pronged pad let you navigate around 3D worlds -- it made the all-time classic Mario 64 a possibility. Of all the gamers we asked about their top pads, Nintendo's came up time and time again, with this one rated the most popular. And it paved the way for...

Just to point out, that Sony didn't have much choice when it came to missing out the rumble feature on the PS3 controller. At first they said it would interfere with the motion controls, but it turned out to be a copyright or patent or something problem with another company.

Umm yea the ps3 controller now has rumble. What the heck are you guys talking about get with the time man and why isn't the playstation move controller on here if you discluded the wii. One of nintendo's greatest game controllers are not here and that was the gamecube part of what the 360's controller stole from. This list is quite out of date and now having the ps3 wii and 360 I know the best is the ps3 (the latest of my consoles.

sorry i can't play a shooter with a wii controller or with any of the others unless it's a mouse and keyboard or the 360's...and i think that's why it won since most people play shooters on consoles nowadays.

Okay people, stop attacking Microsoft with this idea that they stole the Dreamcast controller. First off, the guy who designed the X-Box 360 controller happened to be the same guy who designed the Dreamcast controller. Even so, lots of controllers are similar, who cares? Although Microsoft is my favorite when lt comes to video games, I actually don't think the 360 controller should be #1. But I definitely agree that DualShock controllers activate hand cramps. At least Microsoft's controllers are round in a way that lt fits your hands perfectly. All controllers should be round and PlayStation controllers just feel too' square. I do have experience with all said controllers by the way. And although I do love the X-Box 360 remote, lt just can't take away my love for the original comfortability, the X-Box controller S. I don't know what lt is about that gamepad, but lt has never harmed my hands in any way. Even the X-Box 360 controller eventually gets tiring when you're up at 3:00 in the morning playing Call Of Duty. But, I've been able to go much longer on the smooth well-designed hand-fitting Controller S. That explains why most of the games that I beat are X-Box games.

Although I've never touched a Sega joypad, I will admit that just a look at a Genesis or Saturn controller makes lt #1 worthy. Even the Dreamcast one looks pretty good despite lt's faults (And what controller doesn't have faults?). And not to crap all over Nintendo, but the NES & SNES controllers were bad considering that they're not made for your hands. They're just too' boxy. If you take out the motion sensing ability of the Wii, the Wiimote isn't all that great which is probably why lt was excluded from the list. I also agree that Microsoft's D-Pads weren't very well designed. I'm actually confused as to how so many people like the GameCube remote. The buttons just seemed to have been placed by a tornado. It's got smooth grip but lt must take quite a while to get used to those controls. And what's with the thunderstorm on the Nintendo 64 remote. That's probably my third favorite controller ever and I don't even own one anymore. So lt had three handles, big deal. Have you wondered why there are three handles? Perhaps lf you're left-handed, you can use the left and middle handle and lf you're right-handed, you can use the right and middle handles. Can anyone here imagine playing Mario Kart 64 with a DualShock or any other remote for the matter? I know I can't. Plus, lt had the Rumble Pak. At lt's time, vibration was very cool to have in a remote. And lastly, Atari controllers in the top five? I'm sorry but Atari controls give you a nice feeling of nostalgia when you look at one but to operate one is a feat. How can you keep lt still while you're moving the joystick? And there's only one button! Okay, this is too' long so I'll leave lt at that. Peace out, gamers.

Hmm, I think I have a huge sollution for everyone. I just thought of this now but maybe each controller is designed for different hands. For example, people with rounder palms, like myself, tend to be more X-Box biased. People with more squarish hands such as my cousin, Justin, tend to be more PlayStation biased. With Nintendo, I don't know. Each controller is completely different from lt's predesessor. Perhaps that was an exaggeration but think about lt. I know that X-Box is incorrect but Xbox just seems so plain. By the way, lt was originally to be called the DirectX Box. So, X Box wouldn't be completely inaccurate. But, I like to write X-Box because X Box doesn't seem to connect the X to the Box. One of the reasons I like X-Box so much is that lt's a box and there's a big X on top that I never noticed. Plus, lt was designed like a tank. It reminds me of The Matrix with lt's black and green color scheme. The opening sequence when you turn on the console never gets old and everything just seems so mysterious. It's very simple for there are only four choices in the menu: Memory, Music, Options and X-Box Live. It has a nice hum when you turn lt on. And did any of you know that there is an Orange Ring of Death for lt?! I once saw lt when there was a power outage but lt quickly disappeared and I went back to playing. And what's better than a console that you can't see in the dark? It's like lt turns invisible! Black is the best color for consoles & remotes. And the X-Box never has any problems. It works for years without a hitch. Point for Microsoft. Why is X-Box so underrated just because at first, lt had a fat remote and bad games? I for one hate when people say X-Box and are referring to the 360. It's X-Box and X-Box 360, not X-Box and Original X-Box. Thumbs up for X-Box! Oh wait, this isn't YouTube.

I'm sorry to type four comments in a row but I forgot one last thing and I'll make lt as short as possible. Microsoft doesn't pay anyone to bring up their popularity, Sony does. No offense to all you Sony fanboys but this is true. This is taken straight from Wikipedia but is not a lie: "Sony admitted in late 2005 to hiring graffiti artists to spray paint advertisements for their PlayStation Portable game system in seven major cities including New York City, Philadelphia, San Francisco,[23] and Sydney Australia. The mayor of Philadelphia filed a cease and desist order. According to Sony, they paid businesses and building owners for the right to graffiti their walls.[24] As of early January 2006, Sony had no plans to keep or withdraw them.
In November 2006, a marketing company employed by Sony created a website entitled "All I want for Xmas is a PSP", designed to promote the PSP through viral marketing. The site contained a blog, which was purportedly written by "Charlie", a teenager attempting to get his friend "Jeremy"'s parents to buy him a PSP, providing links to t-shirt iron-ons, Christmas cards, and a "music video" of either Charlie or Jeremy "rapping". However, visitors to the website soon discovered that the website was registered to a marketing company, exposing the site on sites such as YouTube and digg, and Sony was forced to admit the site's true origin in a post on the blog, stating that they would from then on "stick to making cool products" and that they would use the website for "the facts on the PSP". The site has since been taken down. In an interview with next-gen.biz, Sony admitted that the idea was "poorly executed".[25]". And get this: Sony wouldn't be involved in video game affairs lf lt weren't for Nintendo. It turns out that Nintendo accidentally made a worthy competitor (At the time, Nintendo was beating all of the other companies). This console war should really be between Microsoft and Nintendo. Sony stole Nintendo's idea for the PlayStation. Sources: Wikipedia. Search Sony and PlayStation for both arcticles.

I literally could not give a **** about the history of how it came about, what it's based on or who designed it; the XBox 360 controller is, hands down, the absolute best controller ever made. The wired one can be used with a computer without even needing to buy a wireless adapter and the range can be extended using a simple USB extender. Razer USA even makes a better version of it with an upgraded D-Pad. I honestly do not see how you could rate a PS3 controller higher; the "trigger" on it sucks so hard.

Gamecube controller was my favorite and always will be. Not my favorite system, but the most comfortable and well built controller ever made. The PS/2/3 controller is my 2nd fav, then the SNES controller. JMO

Dude what about the Sega Dreamcast controller? are you a Nintendo fan or what? agreed the mini game was rubbish but
1 it was as comfortable as the Xbox
2 the first with both an analogue and cross on one side ( the N64 pad is not confortable in anyway!!)
