PlayStation 3 'leap year failure' angers gamers

PlayStation 3 users around the world have today reported an error that prevents some games being played and stops connection to the PlayStation Network online service. It seems to be restricted to old-model 'fat' PS3s, with some users speculating that the internal clock thought 2010 was a leap year and became confused when today turned out to be 1 March. Sony is looking into the issue, reports GameSpot, which has the full story here: PS3 error locking consoles globally?

Update: The problem has now been resolved -- GameSpot has updated its story if you'd like to follow the whole torrid saga to its happy conclusion.
