Microsoft Kinect for Xbox 360 gets UK price tag

Microsoft has confirmed pricing for the arm-flailing body-sensing Kinect system. Xbox users will pay £130 for the motion-controlled sensor that allows them to play games without a controller.

£130 gets you a Kinect Sensor to plug into your current Xbox 360, and one game, Kinect Adventures. You can buy the same kit with a new Xbox 360 Slim for £250. Forthcoming arm-wavey games such as Kinect Sports, Kinect Joy Ride and Kinectimals will cost £40 each.

Microsoft's long-awaited competitor for the Nintendo Wii was officially named in June, having previously being known as Project Natal.

While we wait for a chance to flap our arms in front of our Xboxes, we can get in a flap over Kinect's pricing. Predictably, we pay a premium for knowing how to spell "through" properly: the US price is $150, which is about £100.

Will you be counting out your cash for Kinect? Comments in the usual place please.

They've just made it less accessible to the major market that actually cares about all this motion/gesture-based gaming: the casual gamers. Are they really going to want to pay £130 on top of around £160-200 for the Xbox 360, when they could just go out and buy another game for their Nintendo Wii that they think will do the same thing?

It's too much, but with all the supermarkets' discounts these days, I imagine you'll probably be able to pick it up for nearer £100 on release.

I don't understand ... at £130 it's basically as much as a Wii. If you already have a Wii, then surely your casual gaming needs are already met, and so why are you going to want to also get this? If you don't have a Wii, why wouldn't you buy a Wii instead of it? The Wii has lots of great games already, and nothing that's on Kinect looks that great.

If it was £50 then alright it's not that big a deal, but at £130 it seems really, really expensive.

Yer it is the same price as a Wii!!! but you can't compare the Wii to a Kinect have a look and see what it can do, its unreal: http://www.game.co.uk/lowdown.aspx?lid=13037&cm_sp=natal-_-topnav-_-natal

Yer ok the Wii was good when it came out. But the Wii is old news now! Plus if you look at this way. when you have multiplayer you have to buy more controllers at £30+ each, where as the Kinect you dont have too, also it has voice and face recognition. So when you walk in front of it, it will log you onto your gamer tag!!! Talk to other on line players without a headset, you say goodnight to it and it will turn it self off the, list goes on and on what you can do with it!

I think it is worth every penny and i have pre-ordered mine for £10 with GAME and i cant wait to get it in Nov... I think it will also sell out at xmas too... £129 What a Bargin. This is the best thing Microsoft have done and PS3 have just been left behide......
