Doctor Who Wii game gets Sonic Screwdriver Wiimote

This Christmas, Daleks may be a problem but locked doors won't be, thanks to the Sonic Screwdriver Wiimote. From October, you'll be able to slip on the Eleventh Doctor's tweed jacket and use the Sonic Wii controller in Nintendo games based on the long-running, time-travelling BBC series Doctor Who. Doctor Who: Return to Earth for the Wii will be released alongside Doctor Who: Evacuation Earth on the DS.

Matt Smith and Karen Gillan reprise their roles as the trusty Time Lord and feisty, flame-haired companion Amy Pond, both of whom will be playable characters as you take on the Daleks and Cybermen. The games are being developed by Asylum Entertainment, which also makes Peppa Pig and Nancy Drew games. The Sonic Screwdriver is made by Blue Ocean Accessories, the hardware arm of the games' distributor, Koch Media.

The show's production team has been involved in the games' creation, lending them a similar air of canonicity to the interactive episodes of Doctor Who: The Adventure Games on the BBC website (the latest episode lets you explore the TARDIS).

The titles of the Nintendo games suggest they'll tell a continuous story. It would be great if this stretched to letting DS gamers jump into the Wii action, as is possible with the Wii and DS versions of Batman: The Brave and the Bold.

Evacuation Earth for the DS and Return to Earth for the Wii will materialise in on 29 October -- bow ties sold separately.
