Windows Phone Gear Store lets you show nerd credentials

Well this chap looks pretty chuffed with himself. That's because he's wearing a Windows Phone t-shirt, purchased from the brand spanking new Windows Phone Gear Store.

That's right, Microsoft has launched an online store hawking swag for the Windows Phone fan. On offer are t-shirts, hoodies, mugs, thermos flasks, glasses, water bottles, and even an infant romper suit to get them started early.

At time of writing there are only 16 products on offer, and they all have the same design: symbols that read 'I heart Windows Phone', which seems a bit cheesy to me. I would've liked to have seen something using the Metro-style UI, seeing as that actually looks pretty cool, rather than a series of circles. And the Windows logo is never going to look at home on a clothing garment, no matter how hard Microsoft tries.

Prices start at $2.99, and the store ships to the UK, so good news for any Windows Phone fans who want to wear their fandom on their sleeves. I know one who'll certainly be splashing out.

All products are offered at base cost, according to the blog post announcing the store, so Microsoft won't make any money from the sales.

Last year Google launched a store selling products bearing its doodles, with a lot more variety on offer. The Windows Phone Gear Store is a 'work in progress' according to the blog post, and new products and designs will be added over time.

Windows Phone is Microsoft's tile-based mobile operating system, found on the Nokia Lumia 900 and 800, among others. It's a huge leap on from Microsoft's previous mobile OS, and had Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak proclaiming it's more intuitive and beautiful than Android.
