In the tech hothouse that is Berlin trade show IFA, rumours and leaks are flying all over the place, so it's rare for an announcement to surprise us. But Toshiba has launched the JournE Touch squarely out of leftfield.
The JournE Touch is described as a 'home multimedia tablet'. It's a 14mm thick, instant-on touchscreen device that's designed to be used as a digital calendar, organiser and Web browser by the whole family. Sounds like the O2 Joggler to us.
It has a 7-inch, LED-backlit 16:9 display with a resolution of 800x480 pixels. You can watch video on it, or hook it up to your TV with an HDMI cradle.
The JournE Touch connects to the Internet via 802.11b/g Wi-Fi supporting WEP, WPA and WPA2 security, or you can plug a 3G dongle into the USB slot for mobile browsing. There's 1GB of flash memory onboard, and an SD card slot for up to 32GB of extra storage. It'll function as a digital photo frame too. Under the bonnet is an ARM processor, and the whole shebang is powered by Windows CE, of all things.
UK prices are not available yet, but on the continent our European amis will pay €250 (£220).
