In this case, it sets a city imprisoned in silence free. Although we question horrific electro-pop being responsible for the unshackling of a whole city.
Sadly their liberation only lasted until digital rights management was introduced, at which point they were re-shackled and only allowed to enjoy music under certain, highly restrictive conditions.

Whoever wrote this article is stupid. Mariah Carey is phenomenally talented. Her songs are incredible too, particularly the ones from the 90's, and her 300m + sold albums and more no.1s than anyone else in history prove it.
