He may have co-founded the defining tech company of our age, but Steve Wozniak doesn't have broadband at home, News.com.au reports. That's right, the Woz has no high-speed Internet reaching his home in Los Gatos, California. Think of all the time he must have on his hands.
Speaking to a business forum in Australia, the Apple co-founder said, "I don't have broadband at my home". Perhaps sensing the surprise in the audience, he went on: "I, Steve Wozniak, don't have broadband at my home." So why not? Well, apparently he just resides on the wrong side of the tracks.
"I live one kilometre out of the main part of town," he said. "Broadband is a monopoly in my town -- that means you can get it from a cable company, but I don't have cable. There are 50 companies that want to sell me DSL, but they've all got to go through the Horizon wires -- the local phone company -- and I've got one of the two worst Horizons in the country. And so I can't get broadband in my house."
So there you are. It's a pretty sorry state of affairs from the sounds of things. But things aren't much better here in the UK, with a recent report saying on average our broadband is 42 per cent slower than advertised.
Wozniak is usually a tech evangelist, so to hear him slam something, you know it must be bad. Just recently he extolled the virtues of Windows Phone in an interview, proclaiming it more intuitive than Android. He even described every screen as "much more beautiful than the same apps on Android or iPhone," though the iPhone is still his weapon of choice. He even queued up for an iPhone 4S at the launch last year.
Could you live without broadband at home? What do you think of the UK's current speeds? Let me know in the comments section below or over on our Facebook page.

Funny posts from people using the internet to write them ....
Yes you could live without it, but then again you can live without central heating, phones, TV, books. The question is, why would one want to?

Okay, I don't get it, he says: "Broadband is a monopoly in my town -- that means you can get it from a cable company, but I don't have cable." You don't have to have cable TV to get cable internet. Are you telling me that you can't get internet service from that cable provider without signing up for their TV service? That sounds strange, but even if that's so, I mean come on, you're one of the richest guys in america, just get the cheapest TV package they have along with whatever speed of internet you want. Hell, I only make about $10 an hour & that's what I would do. Gotta have my broadband. ;-)
