Steve Jobs-themed cake shop to open in London

If there's a self-respecting geek out there who doesn't anticipate a sugary baked treat as strongly as the latest gadget fix, we've yet to meet them.

A Steve Jobs-inspired pop-up bakery, called Megabites, is to open for one day only on Wednesday 9 November, selling Apple-themed cakes and cookies. Alas, this sweet venture comes one day early for CNET UK, where we religiously pay homage to Cake Thursday every week.

The shop -- which marks Internet Week Europe -- taps into the whole subculture of 'geek cakes'. So expect to see Steve Jobs portrait cookies, Apple pies, iPhone-shaped cakes, Angry Birds-shaped treats and a 3D cake sculpted in the shape of Apple's hallowed logo, complete with bitten-out chunk.

The centrepiece will be a 100 per cent edible life-sized MacBook laptop made of cake.

The shop is a collective effort from cake bakers in and around Britain, mobilised into action by mischief-making blogger Miss Cakehead. Her twisted enterprises have included an X-rated 18s-only Halloween pop-up shop and an 'edible autopsy', where diners feast on a lifelike cake corpse.

Madness aside, Megabites, which will be hosted at The Hospital Club in central London, will raise money for charity Pancreatic Cancer UK.

Details of the venue can be found at thehospitalclub.com. Can't get away from the office to visit during working hours? You can tweet a cake reservation for collection later in the day by using the hash tag #geekcakes (which we'll be doing in readiness for Thursday's cake binge).
