If you're out in London town this evening, you may notice a blue beam of light shining into the sky. Well don't be alarmed, aliens aren't invading. Instead, the BT Tower has been transformed into the world's biggest lightsabre. Of course.
The light show started at 8.30pm, when the man who played C-3PO hit the switch at a swanky party in the restaurant at the top of the tower. It wasn't confirmed if he then got annoyed in a camp manner.
More than 60 lights each of 4,500w power, standing 1.3m tall and weighing 124kg combined to make the solid beam of light mimicking the trusted Jedi weapon. It's shining 200m into the air, so should be visible all across the capital. At least those eager beavers already queuing for the Sony tablets outside PC World a few streets away on Tottenham Court Road have got something to look at.
The BT Tower has undergone the transformation to celebrate the launch of all six Star Wars films on Blu-ray, which were released on Monday. The Star Wars: The Complete Saga boxset will set you back £60.
Anthony Daniels, the man inside the C-3PO suit, hit the switch. Earlier in the week, Darth Vader and a group of Stormtroopers marched through central London to try and intimidate those taking part in the changing of the guards at Buckingham Palace. Or at least, people dressed as them did.

One of the cool things about the light saber was the way it collapsed back into the handle, like a folding umbrella with added killing power. You're hardly going to pull the BT Tower out of your pocket and use it to smite the bad guys.

Couldn't you have taken a decent picture with a camera rather than using your smartphone?
