Apple watch has 100-strong design team, fresh rumour says

Whispers of Apple's fabled wristwatch aren't going away, with a fresh report suggesting the Californian company has about 100 product designers beavering away on the mysterious gadget.

Bloomberg is the latest outlet to claim insider know-how, citing two people "familiar with the company's plans" who reckon that massive team includes managers and marketing bods, as well as hardware engineers who previously chiselled the iPad and iPhone.

Word of an Apple-flavoured wrist accessory surfaced at the weekend, when the New York Times claimed Tim Cook and company are crafting a wristwatch with a curved-glass design.

The new report claims that Apple has already made wearable gadgets for tracking fitness, but never put them on sale.

If Apple really is cooking up a wristwatch, it could take on Google's upcoming Google Glass eyewear, which beams information onto a screen in your peripheral vision.

Yesterday CEO Tim Cook said that when Apple tried to make a cheaper Mac, it wound up crafting the iPad. Perhaps in an effort to make a cheaper smart phone, the firm is plotting a cheaper gadget to occupy the space on shoppers' wrists.

Is Apple really making a wearable computer, or is it just wishful thinking from fans who are bored with Apple's current crop of gadgetry? Let me know in the comments, or on our Facebook wall.

The trend is for bigger phones for bigger fingers! I doubt if a screen on that size watch will appeal to anyone but real Apple fanboys. If I wanted crap like this I would visit a market stall full of cheap asian knock-offs. What a waste of time and technical staff to promote what is only at the end of the day a watch. I thought Apple was about innovation? If this is true I can foresee the beginning of the end for Apple as it's a piece of techy junk no one will want.

I am astonished that the iWatch rumor is STILL being pushed like this.

Predictably, certain websites are as eager as ever to pass on Apple propaganda while suspending their usual powers of journalistic scrutiny which seem reserved only for Apple's rivals (not including Google).

Here, we have another classic Apple stock-manipulation rumor, desperately trying to decelerate the continuing decline in Apple stock which has already wiped hundreds of billions of dollars off the value of the company:

Hence the desperate cries of "we're not doomed" from Apple's propaganda machine, now stuck in a pathological overdrive:

Apple's value is bombing -- for clear reasons which are readily apparent to investors and everybody else.

@Peter Hudson (and everyone else)

You do know Android already has this "iwatch"? Came out over a year ago... Old news by Apple really but I'm sure they will make theirs better and 5 times more expensive. Then patient it.

Yeah but no one will be bothered about it unless it has a Samsung logo on it.

Doom mongers tend to suggest Apple is failing and yet they ignore that happens at times anyway. During spaces between product launches there is always a dip which apple haters use as evidence of the applecopalypse. BTW in the US Android market share is falling and IOS is gaining. As for the Sony version people point to, how well is it doing? I'm guessing its not doing very at all. Yes apple will prob create one and make it very popular which will annoy the hell out of people.

Anyway, the way I look at it. If they do produce a watch and I think it will be useful to me in my life, I'll buy it. If they produce one that won't be useful to me in my life, I won't.

There have been leaks indicating a smartwatch coming with the new S IV. And probably one of those miniature phones just for making calls, while keeping the main beast pocketed. We'll see soon enough.

I didn't know about the Sony smart watch, Im still reading about it; I've always liked the idea behind a smart watch and other smart accessories, they would justify phones getting larger. But battery life...

CaptainPicard, that's what I meant earlier. Android stuff is always around but no one seems to bother about it unless it has a Samsung logo on it. Samsung has become to Fandroids what Apple has become to iSheep.

I understand your perspective Peter, Samsung & Apple are cool, they can make existing unknown devices and new ideas mainstream because they market their products better despite some of their products being inferior to rivals, they still out sell them. And yes both companies have loyal fan bases.

Nevertheless, current smart watches are far from perfect. I've seen Chinese smart watches with cameras and other features but they can't run apps. The Sony smart watch can run apps and I actually like it, but it seems pointless. The technology and ideas behind smart watches already exist, but its all scattered throughout different devices, someone has got to bring it all together. And battery life...

My prediction it will go the way of the calculator watch. It was cool that you are going to be able to cheat at test but when they figure it out it will drop in popularity big time.
