Apple Store opens in the Louvre: Where next?

Apple has opened an Apple Store at the Carrousel du Louvre in Paris, an upscale shopping centre beneath the famous Louvre art gallery. We reckon Apple products will look right at home in an art gallery, and we've come up with some suggestions for where Monsieur Jobs should open the next branch of Apple Store.

The new Magasin de la Pomme, which opened this weekend, is located beneath the Louvre Museum. It features the usual white décor and split-level glass staircase.

The Paris shop is the first Apple Store in France. A branch in Montpellier was ready sooner, but the opening has been held back until Saturday to let the Paris branch grab the headlines. Microsoft, which is branching into its own dedicated stores, has a café on Rue Sebastopol where Parisians can try out, but not buy, Windows 7.

So where next for Apple? Here are our suggestions:

Pyramids of Giza

Giza, Egypt
A colossal monument to an aloof deity, the Pyramids at Giza sound like the perfect place for an Apple Store. And here's the clincher: when constructed 4,500 years ago, the Great Pyramids were originally covered in limestone. They're supposed to be iMac-white.

The Forbidden City

Beijing, China
The Forbidden City is a closed-off section of Beijing, open only to the country's ruling elite. Mere mortals weren't allowed to even go near the walls. Yep, that sounds like Apple.

Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum

New York, USA
If we're doing art galleries, the Guggenheim is a must. Frank Lloyd Wright designed the famous sloping walkway, which allows visitors to walk all the way around the museum in one go. That's the kind of design simplicity Apple does so well, as well as evoking the iconic iPod scroll wheel.

International Space Station

Space
The pinnacle of humanity's technological endeavours is currently running on horrible old Windows XP -- what will all those multi-billionaire space tourists think? Near-Earth orbit definitely needs more upscale shopping opportunities.

CNET Towers

London, UK
Because it's already full of geniuses. Arf.

Where do you think Apple Store would be at home? Let us know in the comments.
