Jabra SP500: Bluetooth oddness

Crave likes it when mysterious small silver objects arrive at our door, even when they turn out to be Bluetooth speaker units for mobile phones. It seems as though every phone we handle these days has a speaker phone built in anyway, such as the Treo 650, so that makes this sort of device seem somewhat pointless. However, we're sure there are people out there with old phones and, you know, a car, who might actually need this puppy.

It comes with a nice little three-legged sucker-foot stand for squacking on to your windscreen or dashboard, and can be charged off your cigarette lighter. When you turn it on it plays a wonderfully pompous News at Ten-style warm-up tune, and it has a cool blue light that lets you know when you've synced with your phone.

We managed to work out of the sync state eventually, although as with so many Bluetooth devices, it's great when it works, but when it doesn't, you feel like chopping off your little finger and joining the Yakuza. It paired with the Treo and our other phone of choice, the Motorola Razr V3, with no problems.

Once the scar on our hand had healed, the Jabra sounded pretty good, although we haven't yet had the chance to test it in traffic. We'll let you know how it gets on in the mean streets of London town. -MP
