Fretlight Guitar: easy as LED
Tags: led, guitar, leds, learning
The Beatles found inspiration in LSD, but would they have guessed one day we’d be songwriting by LED? The Fretlight guitar illuminates LEDs along its fretboard to indicate chord patterns and notes.
You can plug the Fretlight into your laptop via USB, select the song of your choice, and play along as LEDs flash about the guitar. An epileptic’s worst nightmare; an amateur guitarist’s dream. No more messing about with sheet music, the guitar shows you exactly where to put your piggies.
The Fretlight guitar is the antithesis of the rock and roll ethic. Pete Townsend probably hopes he dies before he gets LED. But for those with ten thumbs and a thin grip on cool, the Fretlight looks like an entertaining learning tool. -CS

I went to the website and it DOES teach chords and scales - why would you want to struggle going back and forth???

God forbid that an innovative guitar like Fretlight allows more people to enjoy music and possible do something that they thought not possible- like play guitar. Fretlight looks like a great learning tool to me!

It might help people to learn their favourite songs more quickly, but would it help teach them the basics of music knowledge that would enable them to work out how to play the songs themselves? Sounds like an easy way out to me.
