Crave's going crimson for crimbo. Following our look at the Product Red nano, then the blushing red SeeThru case for dressing up our MacBook Pro, we wanted to complete the jigsaw puzzle with the V-Moda Bass Freq headphones. These are available in range of colours -- we chose red.
V-Moda won our love with its high-end Vibe headphones for excellent build quality and sound. The Bass Freq headphones fit in slightly lower down the price range, with a mix of plastic and metal construction. They do live up to their name though, as the response delivered from these babies is nothing short of stunning, without compromising the clarity of the high and mid-range frequencies. Vocals seemed very upbeat -- maybe not as relaxing as the company's Vibe headphones, but fitting in well with the overall sound.
The styling is modern, the cable is nice and long, and the ultra-soft silicon rubber inserts in three sizes provide a very comfortable fit for ears of all shapes and sizes. It's important to use the correct fitting silicon insert, as this boosts that bass a great deal.
You can have the Bass Freq headphones dressed in eight different colour combos (the lime green and orange look particularly fetching), but we've gone red until the end of the year. We note that there's no brown colour available, so all you wannabee Zune fans are out of luck. The V-Moda Bass Freq headphones will set you back around £28, including international shipping. -CD
