Sony back on the campaign trail

So, Sony, you badass consumer electronics manufacturer, what are you planning to hurl at the iPod next? Ah, a new Walkman is it? Hmm, this one doesn't look bad at all. Maybe there's something to this. Next you'll be telling us you plan to replace the incorrigible MP3 transfer software, Sonic Stage, with something usable. What's that? You are? Thank the gods.

Tossed like a fresh grenade into the iPod-controlled demilitarised zone, the new MP3 Walkman represents Sony's latest attempt to make the digital-music-loving public take notice of what it has on offer. The keen-eyed will notice that the organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display is seamlessly integrated into the chassis. We've seen this kind of futuristic detail before, on the NW-E507. The MP3 Walkman comes with new software, Connect Player, which enables you to store, transfer and update tracks and purchase music from Connect, Sony's online music store. You will also be able to buy matching accessories, including a remote control, docking station and docking speaker system.

The player comes in two versions, 6GB (NW-A1000) and 20GB (NW-A3000), and a range of colours. It should be available to buy later this year. -CS
