Samsung YP-T9: Another day, another MP3 player

What are they feeding those Samsung engineers in South Korea? Barely a week goes by without another MP3 player springing forth from the great steel loins of its factory in Kumi.

Now the YP-T9 has emerged, glistening in the moonlight, howling and thrashing. This time, it's twins for Samsung. The YP-T9's brother, the YP-T9B, is Bluetooth-enabled. Whether it supports A2DP (for wireless headphones) or is simply a wireless means to sync music with the computer hasn't been confirmed.

The T9 supports MP3, WMA and OGG audio formats, and in great Samsung tradition, we expect it to be drag-and-drop. It will play videos on its 46mm (1.8-inch) screen in SVI format, although ASF, AVI, MPEG-4, RMVB and WMV files can be transcoded with included software. There are some simple Flash games as well. Battery life is rated at 30 hours of audio playback time and a decent 6 hours for video playback.

The YP-T9 has just received FCC approval in the US, and is already out in Asia (read CNET Asia's review). No details on price or availability in the UK yet, but expect it to slither its way over here soon. Most of these Samsung models don't take long to wash up on our primitive shores. -CS

Update: A full review of the Samsung YP-T9 is now live.
