Last.fm, the music streaming site (and our CBS corporate sibling), released some data this week about the most popular music of the year, as 'scrobbled' by the site's 25 million users. To cut a long story short, Coldplay stole the show.
The site recorded the plays of 650 songs every second of 2008, and Coldplay's Viva la Vida or Death and All His Friends was the most popular album, with lead tracks Viva La Vida and Violet Hill also stealing the top two spots on the most popular songs list.
Last.fm isn't perfect though. It has clearly made a monumental error internally, and listed Katy Perry as one of the best artists of the year. Miss Perry and her abysmal debut One Of The Boys are about as welcome around Crave as amoebic meningoencephalitis, so this news makes us jolly tearful.
Other notable appearances under best album include Nine Inch Nails, Death Cab For Cutie and Sigur Rós -- all galactically superior to Katy 'I-Kissed-A-Fail-Whale' Perry.
The complete run-down is over on Last.fm, so go check it out now, funk soul brother.
