Hands-on with Philips' GoGear SA 6025: Shiny happy MP3

MP3 Players

Wake up, Cravesters! It's a new day, a new week and a new month. Grab your coffee and rub those bleary eyes until they make that squelchy sound that tells you you've pressed just that little bit too hard. Now, what better way to kickstart the summer than with an MP3 player from a big-name brand? We've got our hands on just such a player and it's from Philips -- the GoGear SA 6025.

This glossed-up black device has a 56mm (2.2-inch) screen, support for WMV videos, MP3 and WMA music, plus an FM radio.

Looks and specs aside, sound quality will be good enough for most people. It's a shame that Creative's £25 Zen Stone sounds better, but still, that little fella sounded as good as a £250 iPod. So no, the Philips 6025 isn't breaking any moulds on looks or sound quality, but it's not going to break too many banks at around £70 for 2GB. For an MP3 and video player with decent enough sound, it's got some potential.

We're moving into a new generation of portable hardware and year-old specs are getting a little on the tired side, but a nice-looking device at a fair price may well snag enough followers to survive in this minefield of MP3 players.

You can expect our fully tripped-out, red-hot, maximum-bass review ever so soon. -Nate Lanxon
