Logitech Wireless Headphones: Ear muffins that pump rock

MP3 Players

Here are some wireless head-discos for the iPod generation. We were forced to extract these headphones from their tough plastic packaging by caesarian. Scalpel in one hand, the spoils of modern headphone technology in the other, Crave stood victorious over twisted plastic shards.

The Logitech pack includes a lighter-sized transmitter that plugs into the top of your iPod. The white of this transmitter doesn't quite match the slight off-white of Apple's finest -- fashionistas beware. The transmitter also increases the length of your iPod by one quarter. Once you're over this strange new look, you simultaneously hold down a button on the transmitter and on the headphones to pair the devices and you're ready to kick some punk ass.

Wow! Sound quality on these aural ticklers is breathtaking. The Chili Peppers' Scar Tissue sounded crisp. Snare hits were as tight as a space shuttle re-entry trajectory and the low-end was punchy without sounding remotely muddy. It's unusual to find such good bass response on a pair of fashion headphones. It might have something to do with the size of the drivers on these beat bibblers: they're potentially massive, though it's hard to tell how much of this space might be taken up by receivers.

Reception on the headphones is similarly excellent. We did all we could to bury this in a rucksack, but it still kept delivering its sweet audio heroin. -CS
