Tonight, Matthew, I'm going to be the iPod's headphones
"Anything you can do, I can do better. I can do everything better than you," sing the Sennheiser MX500 headphones. Chilling, since we haven't plugged them in yet. Clearly they caught sight of our iPod and are laying the smackdown on its hippy ideals.
The MX500's have taken more than a leaf out of Apple's book -- they've ripped out chapters one to ten and eaten the bibliography while laughing like tramps on a Ribena binge.
Imitation may be the sincerest form of flattery, but we've got the feeling that Sennheiser didn't so much want to flatter Apple as upstage it. The Apple and Sennheiser headphones are like two girls who've turned up to a party in the same dress. But the Sennheiser is a better conversationalist -- these MX500s rock.
We're huge fans of the original iPod headphones, but Sennheiser appear to have the edge here. Everything we've listened to so far on these beasties sounds crisp and punchy. Nirvana's Lithium came across with such fierce clarity we span in our wheelie chairs yapping like dogs. The iPod may have the looks, but we know who we'd rather spend the evening with. -CS
