What's this saying cheese? It appears to be a Panasonic DMC-GX1, a forthcoming Micro Four Thirds camera that's popped up on a Taiwanese forum, as spotted by SlashGear.
On the front is an X-series lens, which packs the same great aperture range and zoom capabilities into a housing that's less than half the size of its predecessor.
There's not much info to go on otherwise. The snaps appeared on the Mobile01 forum. The GX1 looks suitably compact, as you'd expect from a Micro Four Thirds device, has a built-in flash, and that X-series lens. There's no viewfinder, so we can assume you'll need to frame your shots using the screen on the back.
Inside we can expect stereo microphones, and Full HD video recording, which are par for the course when it comes to Micro Four Thirds cameras nowadays. What's far from standard are its specs -- while unconfirmed, if true they could make it a real heavyweight, especially for such a small camera: a 16-megapixel sensor, a new and improved image processor, and a quite ridiculous ISO 12,800. That translates to massive pictures with excellent low-light performance.
The GX1 is set to be the latest in Panasonic's line of Micro Four Thirds cameras. The Lumix DMC-GF3 was the most recent, but the change in product code hints this is a different beast altogether, as opposed to the GF3's successor.
Panasonic is famous for its excellent -- if pricey -- compact lens-swapping cameras, so this is massive news. We'll bring you more as soon as we get it. We're expecting an official announcement next month, just in time for Christmas.

Groan... so it's another camera for the "more megapickles must be better" idiots. 16MP means the dot pitch will be little better than my LX5 - and that means the sensor noise in low will be no better.
This is not a camera for more sophisticated shooters.

I hate to admit that NEX series look better and better, especially learning about the competition - NX200 jpegs are falling apart after ISO200 and panasonic is same old, old sensor, no eye EVF, sigh.

G3 sensor in this cam first of all could be 12 mpixel and even without it complete demolishes you t LX5 bij 2,5 stops better noise and DR performance.

The X lens looks great!---this is what mirrorless is all about: small package with DLSR quality. ....Sorry Sony and Samsung: you lenses are too big.
