Nikon has performed an impressively splashy belly flop into the pre-PMA camera-announcement pool with the launch of three entry-level snappers: the Coolpix L110 superzoom, and Coolpix L21 and L22 point-and-shoot compacts.
The successor to last year's L100, the L110 has received a 2.1-megapixel resolution boost, taking it to 12.1 megapixels. Like its predecessor, it has a wide-angle 15x zoom and 76mm (3-inch) LCD display, but Nikon's increased the resolution of the screen from 230,000 to 460,000 pixels. That delights us no end, because the L100's iffy LCD was one of our major beefs with what was otherwise a rather smashing budget offering.
Our other big gripe with the L100 was its lack of manual ISO control, but there's no indication that this lamentable situation will change with the L110. We might cut it some slack though, given that Nikon's added a 720p movie-capture mode. You can even use the optical zoom and autofocus while recording, which gives us a warm, tingly feeling inside, like we've just eaten some nettles.
The L110, like the L21 and L22, runs on AA batteries, which is convenient for when you're atop a windy peak with no power socket in sight. Nikon says the L110 will snap 840 photos or record 7 hours of video on the four included AA lithium batteries.
Available in black or a fetching red, the L110 will be on sale in the UK in mid-February for a currently undisclosed price. Hit 'Continue' to cop an eyeball full of the L21 and the L22, the successor to the L20.
