Hands-on with the Fujifilm J110w: No frills

The Fujifilm FinePix J110w looks like every compact camera you've ever seen, and, in this recession-hit economic climate, could be just what people want. A 10-megapixel point-and-shoot affair, it's available now for £130, which gets you a 5x optical zoom and 28mm wideangle lens in a brushed-metal-effect plastic box.

It packs a 69mm (2.7-inch) LCD screen, which is good, although it manages to look rather small because of the chunky bezel around the edge. The controls on the right-hand side are simple and uncluttered, with their appealing roundness edging them towards Pentax cutesiness levels.

The J110w goes up to ISO 1,600 at full 10-megapixel resolution, and will stretch to ISO 3,200 at 3-megapixel resolution. It uses SD and SDHC memory cards, and will record 640x480-pixel video with mono sound. This sort of thing must be recession-proof.
