Pinch, punch, first of the month -- no returnsies! Today's wintry Crave is the 10-megapixel Fujifilm FinePix Z200fd, the latest in Fuji's line of sliding cover-style compacts. The diagonally-sliding cover and light up 'Z' were new and exciting on the original Z100, but the Z200 doesn't exactly ring the changes on the style front. It does bring a slightly more polished air to the Z100's youthful exuberance with a brushed metal fascia.
The bump from 8 to 10 megapixels isn't matched by much of a change in the rest of the spec sheet, either. The Z200 still packs a 5x optical zoom lens, equivalent to 35-165mm on a 35mm camera.
Features include CCD-shifting image stabilisation. Face detection is included, alongside a couple of red-eye removal settings, to stop those pictures of little Damien looking like, well, like Damien. You also get a timer that waits for couples or groups to be ready before firing off a shot.
Pictures are recorded to xD card, or you can use the now near-ubiquitous SD or SDHC memory cards instead, which is far more sensible.
Scene modes include the standard portrait and landscape modes, as well as action mode and more. Video is offered in 640x480 pixels at 30 frames per second, 320x240 pixels at 30fps. Only monaural sound, sadly.
