Fujifilm FinePix Z800EXR: Sixth sensor

The Fujifilm FinePix Z800EXR is the very latest Fuji camera to pack the clever, super-adaptable EXR sensor. We're practically out of sensor-related puns, but as this is the sixth EXR camera we've got our headline.

The 12-megapixel EXR sensor can automatically decide what kind of situation it's looking at, and double up pixels to extract more detail, more dynamic range in high-contrast scenes, or more sensitivity in low-light situations. It also chooses the best kind of autofocus depending on conditions: phase detection AF for contrasty scenes, or contrast AF in lower light.

It seems like only 5 minutes since the Z800's predecessor, the Fujifilm FinePix Z700EXR, was unveiled, but that's the fast-paced 21st century we live in.

Beneath the Z800's sliding face plate is a 5x optical zoom. Other features include a motion panorama mode to take extra-wide shots in one smooth sweeping movement, and face detection that remembers eight family or friends' phizzogs. It also shoots 720p video.

The 89mm (3.5-inch) touchscreen detects which way round the camera is being held, and displays the onscreen menu options accordingly.

The Z800EXR will be available in red or black. Pricing and availability are yet to be confirmed.
