Casio Exilim EX-H5 and Exilim EX-FH25: Super summer superzooms

We have a soft spot in our hearts for Casio, thanks to the digital watches, plinky-plonky keyboards and calculators -- 58008, snigger -- of our youth. On this balmy British summer day, two new superzooms cameras, the Casio Exilim EX-H5 and Exilim EX-FH25, pierce the fog of nostalgia.

The 12.1 megapixel compact EX-H5 packs a 24mm wide angle lens and 10x optical zoom. It sports a 69mm (2.7-inch) screen and shoots high definition 720p video. It'll come in silver, black and red livery.

The compact superzoom market is so hot right now, and the H5 will have to go some to compete with the excellent Samsung WB600, Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ8 and TZ10. We'll let you know how the H5 measures up in a forthcoming review, but we will say this up front: if the price stays at the quoted £150, it's a solid gold bargain.

Casio has also unveiled another high-speed superzoom. The Exilim EX-FH25 follows on from the Exilim Pro EX-FH20, capturing up to 1000 images per second at a reduced resolution. It will snap 30 photos per second at a respectable 9-megapixel resolution.

The 10-megapixel FH25 packs a 20x optical zoom with a 26mm wide-angle lens. It has a stabilised CMOS sensor. Features include pre-record mode, which starts recording as soon as you half-press the shutter but only saves the last frames, so you can get set for an action shot and make sure you don't miss out.

The FH25 will be available in black for around £400. Right, we're going back to daydreaming about jumpers for goalposts, Transformers and teenage crushes.
