Canon PowerShot S95: Like the S90, but 5 better

The Canon PowerShot S95 looks like one heck of a camera -- and that's before you get to the new hi-def video function. It's the sequel to the thoroughly excellent PowerShot S90, upon which we bestowed a coveted Editors' Choice Award last year.

The S95 adds 720p high-definition video and HDMI connection to the equation, which makes it just about the perfect balance of specs and pocketability. We can't wait to get our hands on a sample for one of our famously probing in-depth reviews.

Like the S90, the S95 has a clever control ring around the front of the lens. That gives you dSLR-like control over the compact camera, letting you adjust settings such as exposure, focus and ISO without having to take your eyes off the action to dive into menus.

The screen is a spacious 76mm (3-inch) LCD. The lens boasts a maximum aperture of f/2, with a 28mm wide angle and 3.8x optical zoom. It also shoots raw files.

The PowerShot S95 arrives this month and will cost £400. That's a lot of money, but it's also a lot of camera.

So it's gonna cost more in GBP than it is in USD? Great, rip off Britain strikes again!

As much as I hate paying more than other counties, having this kind of quality and versatility in your pocket is priceless. I played with it the other day and it's actually slimmer than the S90. In-built HDR, a bunch of other effects (minature works a TREAT).

Want.
