Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR: Superzooms get more sensitive

The Fujifilm FinePix S200EXR cameras packs a 14x optical zoom and brings Fuji's new sensor to the superzoom market.

The 12-megapixel S200 joins the FinePix F70EXR compact superzoom, also announced today. Both make use of the Super CCD EXR sensor that optimises the camera's performance for different lighting conditions. Apart from that major change, the S200 is an update to the FinePix S100FS, which has been squidged down into a smaller, lighter shell.

Like the F70, the S200 includes Pro Low-light mode, which snaps a burst of frames and combines them into a single lower-noise image, and a Pro Focus mode, which merges several photos to simulate a shallow depth of field. The background is defocused for a lovely bokeh effect. Unlike the F70, the S200 includes optical image stabilisation.

The S200 sports a 69mm (2.7-inch) screen. It shoots VGA-resolution video at 30 frames per second, and snaps raw as well as JPEG stills.

Pricing for the UK will be confirmed closer to the August release date, but the US version costs $600 (£370).
